This week’s Eastern Gateway Community College High School Athlete of the Week is Buckeye Local girls basketball player Emily Holzopfel. Emily scored 23 points in Panthers victory over Big Red, and 25 points to help Buckeye Local beat Edison.
Steubenville Catholic Central beat Bridgeport 50-43. Tia Taglione scored 17 points while Grace Godich added nine for the Crusaders.
Valley topped Madonna 51-47. Jazzy Melnick scored 10 points for the Blue Dons.
Buckeye Local beat Edison 58-26. Emily Holzopfel scored 25 points and Alaire Destifanes had 17 for the Panthers.
Union Local downed Harrison Central 62-43. Sydney Starr scored 23 points for the Huskies.
United topped Toronto 62-39. Gina Fogle led the Red Knights with 14 points.
Madonna running back Donavan Kirby has been named to the first team of the West Virginia Single-A All-State football team. Special Honorable Mention to Madonna’s Garrett Cook and Ryan Ekey. Special Honorable Mention to Madonna’s Chance Lemley, Mac Raymond and Zak Tokash.
Girls High School Basketball, Brooke topped Weir High 62-18. Chloe Fox scored 17 points and Ashley Arca added 14 for the Bruins. Weir High’s Treasure Elmore-Sartor and Sophia Mikula scored four points apiece.
Buckeye Local downed Steubenville 49-38. Emily Holzopfel scored 23 points for the Panthers. Maddison Fields scored 11 points for Big Red.
St. Clairsville beat Harrison Central 56-41. Alex Wiley led the Huskies with 15 points.
