The Tribe and Twins were rained out in Minnesota, they’ll play two today. Cleveland is 5 ½ games ahead of Kansas City for the top spot in the AL Central.
Carlos Santana hit two of Cleveland’s five home runs and Danny Salazar struck out 10 in seven innings as the Indians thumped the Twins 8-1. Cleveland has won five straight and leads Minnesota and Kansas City by six games in the AL Central. The Tribe and Twins play again tonight in Minnesota.
Indians’ left-hander Andrew Miller is set to pitch one inning of rehab tonight before being activated prior to the start of the team’s series in Kansas City Friday. Miller has been out since August 2 with right knee patella tendinitis.
Edwin Encarnacion homered twice to help the Indians earn their fourth straight victory, 7-3 over the Red Sox. Cleveland is five games up on Kansas City and Minnesota in the AL Central. The Indians visit the Twins tonight.
Austin Jackson hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth as the Indians edged the Rays 4-3, to win their third straight. First-place Cleveland is 4 ½ games ahead of Minnesota in the AL Central. The Indians visit the Red Sox tonight.
Charlie Blackmon homered in the 12th to lead the Rockies past the Indians 3-2. Cleveland, which is 4 games up in the AL Central, visits Tampa Bay tonight.
The Indians acquired veteran outfielder Jay Bruce from the Mets for minor league pitcher Ryder Ryan. Cleveland agreed to pick up the roughly $4.2 million left on Bruce’s $13 million salary. Bruce is hitting .258 with 29 homers and 75 RBI this year. Bruce, a three-time All-Star, gives the Indians a corner outfielder and established bat to replace Michael Brantley, who went on the DL Monday with a sprained ankle. Lonnie Chisenhall has also been on the disabled list since early July with a strained calf.
Yan Gomes hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, giving the Indians a 4-1 win over the Rockies. Cleveland is four games up on Kansas City in the AL Central. The Tribe hosts Colorado again tonight.
Cleveland All-Star reliever Andrew Miller may need more time to recover from knee tendinitis. Manager Terry Francona said Miller could be out longer than expected. Miller is eligible to be activated Saturday.
Rookie Bradley Zimmer homered and drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh inning double as the Indians won their sixth straight, 10-4 over the Angels. Cleveland is a game and-a-half ahead of Kansas City in the AL Central.
