Girls Soccer In Our Area Rocks

Stories-KlepacksKoncepts

Weir High and Madonna met yesterday in the West Virginia AA-A Sectionals, unfortunately only one team can advance.  Julia Gianni scored twice and Francesca Farran had one goal to lead the Red Riders past the Blue Dons 3-1.  Makayla Virden scored Madonna’s goal.  Congratulations to the Blue Dons for a great season and good luck to Weir High as they move forward in the playoffs.  The Oak Glen girls dropped a heartbreaker as Wheeling Central’s Monica Minor scored with 1:18 left in the game to give the Maroon Knights a 1-0 victory in their sectional matchup.

This week’s computer rankings have been released and Steubenville Big Red is 3rd in Ohio, Division 4, Region 15.  Indian Creek is 7th.  Harrison Central is 8th in Division 5, Region 19 and Toronto is 7th in Division 7, Region 25.  In West Virginia Double-A, Weir High is 12th.  Steubenville has two tough games left, but if they win out they should finish 2nd in their region.  Indian Creek has two tough games also, South Range this week and rival Edison next week.

Football Fans

Stories-KlepacksKoncepts

Football season in the Valley is always great and this year is no exception.  The kids and coaches give everything they have to be successful.  Fans need to remember that.  No one tries, or game-plans to loose…sometimes the other team is better.  I will keep this short because I think most people get it.  The next time you go to a high school football game, make sure the most mature people aren’t the ones on the field.

Pirates Eliminated

Stories-KlepacksKoncepts

Well it’s official…the Bucs have been eliminated from postseason contention after last night’s 6-4 loss to the Cubs and San Francisco’s win.  This ends a run of three straight playoff appearances.  The Bucs have a lot of questions heading into next year.  PITCHING, I think should be at the top of the list.  Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon and…?  WHO? Nova? What do they with Sean Rodriguez? Who plays first base? Who supplies the power?  I’m sure I’ll think of more questions later.

Coach Corner

Mike and I had two great interviews with area football coaches today.  Eric Meek of Toronto talked about moving forward after suffering their first loss of the season.  Brooke’s Mac McLean talked about a number of things including blocking out distractions.  Check out all the coaches’ interviews on ovsports.net.  Our football broadcasts this week include Big Red and ASVSM Friday on 106.3 The River & the Trinity Health System Stream.  Weir High and Union Local will be on The Ohio Valley Sports Network 94.9=FM &

Pull The Fork Out of the Bucs

Stories-KlepacksKoncepts

Those of you, Mike Mathison, who stuck the fork in the Pittsburgh Pirates last week (or even before that) are Yogiing now…”It ain’t over till it’s over.”  A week ago the Bucs were what 6 or 7 games out of the final wild card, and I’ll admit I thought they were done also.  Since the worlds aligned yesterday and St. Louis, San Francisco and New York all lost, the Bucs are only 3 1/2 games out with 11 to play.

Coaches Corner

Our “Coaches Corner” feature, on Sports Radio 1430 WEIR, is going great! Every morning Mike and I talk to two coaches about last week’s game and the up coming opponent. We always record the interviews and put on the web site. Each coach has the same time and day all season. Today we spoke with Andrew Connor of Indian Creek and Derrick Stickles from Edison. Go to weirsports.com to hear all the interviews. Tomorrow Steve Daley of Steubenville Catholic Central and Darren Hicks of Madonna will join us.

Little League World Series

Stories-KlepacksKoncepts

I love this time of year!  Not only is it the start of high school football season…but it’s also time for the Little League World Series.  In the “Bigs,” men play a child’s game.  Little League, to me is pure…children playing a child’s game.
