Reds trade second baseman Brandon Phillips

The Cincinnati Reds traded second baseman Brandon Phillips to the Braves for a pair of pitching prospects.  The Reds will pay most of Phillip’s $14 million salary this season.  Cincinnati got left-hander Andrew McKirahan, who’s recovering from Tommy John surgery, and right-hander Carlos Portuondo.

Ivan Nova pitched a six-hitter and Jung Ho Kang hit a two-run double as the Pirates extended the Reds’ losing streak to five with a 4-1 victory.  Milwaukee beat St. Louis, so the Bucs are 4 games out of the wild card.  Pittsburgh and Cincinnati again tonight at PNC Park.
