Jeff. County Fair Cheering Competition

Congratulations to kids from Toronto for sweeping the cheering competition at the Jefferson County Fair yesterday.  The Toronto Titans won the recreational league with wins in the bantam, JV and varsity divisions.  Toronto won the Jr. High level and the Red Knights won the high school varsity division.  The Weirton Steelers made their first trip the Jefferson County event.  Great job Steelers.  The Indian Creek Chiefs and Young Buckeyes also did a fantastic job.  Harding and Indian Creek were awesome in the Jr.

Dover (155) beat Harrison Central (170) and Meadowbrook (176) in a tri-match at Cadiz Country Club.  Clint Heavlin led the Huskies with a 38.  Cameron McIntosh shot a 42, Cruz Capers and Sam Santille both recorded a 45.

 

Pina’s 2-Run Blast Leads Brew Crew

Manny Pina hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Brewers past the Pirates 7-6.  Keon Broxton homered twice, Neil Walker and Trivis Shaw also went deep for Milwaukee.  Pittsburgh is 5 ½ games behind the Cubs in the NL Central entering tonight’s home game with the Cardinals.  (7-5) Jameson Taillon faces (12-5) Adam Wainwright.  Join the OVSN at 6:40 for the pregame show.

 

Porter On Harrison’s Role

Steelers linebackers coach Joey Porter said the team plans to use rookie T.J. Watt and Bud Dupree as primary pass-rushers with James Harrison serving in a relief role.  The 39-year-old Harrison said he’s content with any role in the defense.  Pittsburgh hosts Atlanta Sunday afternoon at 4.

Brooke and Bridgeport, WV both shot 163 to tie for the top spot at a quad meet at Pines Country Club in Morgantown.  For the Bruins, Ryan Bilby shot a 38.  Brooke’s Michael Spitak recorded a 40, Evan Cuomo finished with a 41, while Justin Pennybacker tallied a 44.  Morgantown and Trinity finished third and fourth.

 

Broxton Homer Leads Crew Past Bucs

Keon Broxton homered, Manny Pina drove in two and Zack Davies pitched into the seventh as the Brewers topped the Pirates 3-1.  The Bucs, who are 4 ½ games out of first in the NL Central, wrap up their two-game set in Milwaukee this afternoon.  (10-8) Gerrit Cole faces (9-6) Jimmy Nelson.  Join the OVSN at 1:45 for the pregame show.
