Hall of Fame Says No Wahoo


The baseball Hall of Fame says it no longer will use the Cleveland Indians’ Chief Wahoo logo for plaques of new members.  Former Cleveland slugger Jim Thome says he wants a block ‘C’ logo on his plaque when it’s unveiled in July.


Darnold Pro-Day


Owner Jimmy Haslam was among the Browns contingent at Sam Darnold’s pro day, as the team ponders taking him with the first overall pick in the draft.  Dardold received favorable reviews from analysts for his footwork, arm strength and accuracy.


Novak, Vandeborne and Connor All-State


The Division III Boys Basketball All-Ohio Team has been announced and Buckeye Local senior Drake Novak earned Third Team honors.  Novak averaged 25.1 points a game.  In Division IV, Donnie Vandeborne of Steubenville Catholic Central and Nate Karaffa of Toronto gathered Special Mention honors, while A.J. Connor of Steubenville Catholic Central earned Honorable Mention.


Islanders Top Pens


Mathew Barzal and Adam Pelech scored in the first period as the Islanders topped the Penguins 4-1.  The Pens host Montreal tonight at 7, join 106.3 The River and 1063theriver.com at 6:30 for the pregame show.


WVU Ahead of Storm


The 5th-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers Men’s Basketball team left Morgantown yesterday for Friday’s Sweet 16 appearance in Boston against top-seeded Villanova.  WVU left a day early because of the winter storm hitting the east coast.  Listen to the WVU/Villanova game on the OVSN 94.9 FM, we’ll take the air Friday night at 7 for the 7:30 tipoff.


Steelers Add Defensive Help


The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free-agent safety Morgan Burnett to a three-year, $14.5 million deal.  During eight seasons with Green Bay, Burnett has played linebacker, slot corner and both safety positions.  Scouts predict Burnett will probably be a strong safety in Pittsburgh, which would allow Sean Davis to slide to free safety.
