The Steelers claimed QB Zack Mettenberger, one day after the Chargers released him. To make room on the roster, Pittsburgh placed Bruce Gradkowski on the Reserve/Injured List. Mettenberger was a sixth-round pick of Tennessee in 2014. Mettenberger has completed 208 passes for 2,347 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Kris Bryant hit his 36th homer and made three solid plays at third base as the Cubs topped the Pirates 6-5 for a three-game sweep. Milwaukee beat St. Louis so the Bucs remain 2 ½ games out of the wild card. Pittsburgh is off today and starts a weekend series with the Brewers tomorrow night at PNC Park.

The Steelers released three players and placed veteran tight end Ladarius Green on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. Green can’t join the active roster until after Week 6 of the regular season. Pittsburgh released safety Jacob Hagen, defensive tackle Devaunte Sigler and cornerback Kevin White. The Steelers will have more moves to make, as all teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players by Saturday at 4 p.m.
Kyle Hendricks threw seven dominant innings and Anthony Rizzo belted a two-run homer as the Cubs blanked the Pirates 3-0. St. Louis beat Milwaukee, leaving the Bucs 2 ½ games out of the wild card. Pittsburgh wraps up its series at Wrigley tonight. (3-3) Ryan Vogelson faces (13-7) Jason Hammel.
